First Falcon Auction in Modern Russian History Held in Far East on 10 September

11.09.2023

The first Falcon Day International Forum, held on the first day of the 8th Eastern Economic Forum, hosted a falcon auction, attended by guests from the Persian Gulf. The auction was organized by the Roscongress Foundation and the Russian Auction House with the support of VNII Ecologia and the Kamchatka Falcon Center. The EEF is being organized by the Roscongress Foundation.

“The first falcon auction in modern Russian history has allowed us to let the world know about the advantages of the legal and professional approach to falconry taken in Russia and the openness of Russian centres for the reintroduction and conservation of falcons. Our country is taking another step towards reviving this forgotten culture of birds of prey,” Advisor to the President of Russia and Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee of the Eastern Economic Forum Anton Kobyakov said.

Auction lots included gyrfalcons, saker falcons, and peregrines bred in various Russian hatcheries from Moscow Oblast to Kamchatka.

The funds raised during the auction will be used for the development of falcon reintroduction and conservation centres, eco-tourism, and research in nature and at the centers.

The auction was held in accordance with the provisions of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), adopted on 3 March 1973. The document regulates international trade in rare and endangered species of animals and plants.

The 8th Eastern Economic Forum is being held on the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok on 10–13 September.
